Helping Families Heal Together
Addiction is a disease that affects not just the individual but also their closest relationships. Spouses, children, parents, siblings, extended family, friends and colleagues all experience the ripple effects of addiction. At Newgate 180, we believe that recovery is a shared journey. Our Family Program provides counselling, education and support to loved ones, helping them understand both addiction and the recovery process.
By educating and supporting family members, we empower them to navigate their own healing journey—recovering from the fear and challenges that addiction has brought into their lives. As your loved one focuses on their treatment, you too have an opportunity to reflect on your own needs and steps toward a healthier, more balanced future.
What to Expect from the Program
Our comprehensive Family Program is designed to support healing through two key elements:
1. Family Information Sessions
These sessions take place on Sundays and provide valuable insights into addiction, recovery and available resources. The sessions are divided into two phases:
- Phase One (9:30 AM – 11:00 AM): For families of individuals in the residential 30-day treatment program.
- Phase Two (11:30 AM – 1:00 PM): For families of individuals in the continuing care program, which lasts for 11 months post-treatment.
2. Family Questionnaire & Meetings
Each family will receive a questionnaire designed to explore the impact of their loved one’s addiction on both the individual in treatment and the family as a whole. This information will be shared with the client to foster accountability, rebuild trust, improve communication and guide forward progress.
A Case Manager will schedule a family meeting to review the questionnaire, discuss the impact of addiction and create a plan for moving forward together.
What to Expect During Intake
Upon arrival at Newgate 180, your loved one will be greeted by a dedicated team member who will conduct an initial assessment and personal history review. This helps determine the best course of action for their recovery.
Family members will also meet with a team member to receive information about the Family Program.
The Newgate team will then create a personalized treatment plan based on:
- The client’s assessment and personal history
- Behavioural patterns that influence addiction
- Insights from the family questionnaire
This individualized approach ensures the best possible recovery plan for each client.
