Successfully Treating Men with Addictions since 1975
Since our early beginnings in 1975, Newgate 180 has helped thousands of men overcome their addiction and rebuild their lives. Over the past nearly 50 years since our founding, we’ve learned how important it is to have facilities and programs that are tailored to the special needs of our male clients.
At Newgate 180, we treat men of all ages and from all walks of life, from their mid 20s to their early 70s. The vast majority of our male clients are working people who wish to re-enter the workforce and live full and addiction-free lives.
Male patients come to Newgate 180 from all over Ontario and Canada, even as far away as the United States and Western Europe.
Why Have an Addiction Program Designed for Men?
Over the years, we’ve learned that men experience and recover from addiction differently than women. Also, that societal expectations, cultural norms and pressures surrounding masculinity usually play a major role in our male clients seeking addiction treatment and recovery.
We designed an addiction treatment program for men to create a space where they can openly discuss their struggles, address emotional barriers and learn healthier ways of coping with life without judgment or pain.
By focusing on issues such as managing stress, rebuilding relationships and embracing vulnerability, our treatment program empowers men to achieve lasting sobriety and personal growth. Through shared understanding, our rehab program helps men build the foundation for a healthier, more fulfilling life.
What to Expect from our Men’s Addiction Program
Newgate 180 provides a unique and industry-leading modular approach to treatment. Developed through years of working with clients and listening to them and their stories, we understand the many complex issues that cause addiction and relapse.
Our treatment programs are delivered both individually and in groups. Approximately 70% of our group programs are delivered to men and women separately to help clients to comfortably and genuinely express their gender-specific experiences.
While delivering our men’s addiction rehab programming, our addiction treatment team works with our male clients to understand and share their perspective on masculinity, societal expectations, stigma, shame, risky behaviours and physical and mental health.
Our program fosters an environment where men can build meaningful connections among their peers at Newgate 180 and can share their experiences without fear of judgment.
In addition to our gender-specific programming, 30% of our group programs are co-ed. We believe that by exposing our clients to co-ed programming, they will gain a much more comprehensive understanding of the path needed for a sustainable, lifelong recovery.
About our Men’s Centre and Facilities for Men
