Honouring the Devoted Team at Newgate 180
On Thursday, September 5, we were thrilled to host our 2nd annual staff appreciation barbeque lunch. With delicious local food, speeches and a beautiful setting on the banks of the Rideau River, we gathered staff and board members together to celebrate the contributions of our dedicated staff as we enter our 50th year of operations.
Over burgers, sausages, salads, cake and much more, Peter Kunst, Executive Director, spoke to the efforts of the team, which have led to Newgate 180 being often recognized as Ontario’s leading rehab centre.
About the Newgate 180 Team
Our team consists of 25 addiction counsellors, administrative, fitness, medical and maintenance staff who spend every day delivering the best possible care to each client. Our team comes from diverse backgrounds of education, professional and lived experiences which allow them to support clients through their journeys of recovery from alcohol, drugs and gambling addiction. Many of our team members have been helping rebuild lives at Newgate 180 for over a decade.
Newgate 180 operations are overseen by our five committed board members. Each board member brings a unique perspective and set of skills. Notably, one of our members has served over 25 years at Newgate, another was a graduate of the Newgate 180 program 20 years ago.
Secretary and Treasurer, Jake Chartrand, spoke passionately at the BBQ to the 49-year history of Newgate 180.
Newgate 180 Addiction Rehab Centre History
Newgate was first founded in 1975 as Gateway House in Ottawa. Over the years, the program continued to grow and develop. In 1998, the name was officially changed to Newgate 180 and in 2004, the Rideau River location was opened.
Since 2004, the program has continued to evolve, most notably the opening of the Women’s Centre, in Merrickville in 2007.
As we eagerly enter our 50th year of successfully treating addictions, we look forward to continuous growth and program development, including the launch of the newly updated and expanded Women’s Program this fall.
Newgate 180’s success can be attributed to those who work tirelessly to ensure every client who walks through our doors is given every opportunity to succeed and regain their lives from addiction.
We were pleased to take a few hours to enjoy beautiful weather, great food and honour their hard work.
50 years would not have been possible without this devoted group of professionals.
