Our one-year program begins with a 30-day residency in Merrickville, followed by an 11-month ongoing outpatient program, totalling 12 months of all-inclusive care and support. We provide dedicated focus areas tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients, including trauma-informed care during the recovery process, and building coping skills and resilience.

While delivering our men’s addiction rehab programming, our addiction treatment team works with our male clients to understand and share their perspective on masculinity, societal expectations, stigma, shame, risky behaviours and physical and mental health.

Our program fosters an environment where men can build meaningful connections among their peers at Newgate 180 and can share their experiences without fear of judgment.

Throughout our women’s programming, we work with clients on understanding women’s perspectives and the impacts of addiction on body image, stigma, shame, risky behaviours and physical and mental health. Societal pressures, caregiving expectations, relationships, mental health and trauma all impact women uniquely, and we believe they need to be addressed as such through treatment.

All women’s programming is delivered by our female clinical team. Our program fosters an environment where women can build meaningful connections among their peers in the program and can share their experiences without fear of judgment.

Our program is trauma-informed, recognizing the pervasive impact of trauma on every aspect of one's life. We understand that trauma affects individuals in profound and lasting ways, and we integrate this awareness into all areas of our programming.

Many men and women develop maladaptive coping mechanisms, such as substance use, as a way to manage the effects of past trauma. At Newgate 180, we believe it is essential for women to establish a solid foundation in recovery and develop healthy coping strategies before engaging in trauma work. If this “Pandora’s box” is opened too soon, clients often revert to old coping mechanisms, which only perpetuates the cycle of trauma.

Throughout our program, we support clients in building grounding techniques, coping skills, and a strong support network, all of which are essential for effectively accessing ongoing trauma therapy.

Please note: Newgate 180 is not a trauma centre and does not focus on directly processing past trauma. Instead, we ensure our clients are equipped with the necessary tools and resilience to engage in trauma therapy when they are ready.
